Reflexology treatment Manningtree / Mistley

What is Reflexology?

Reflexology is a deeply relaxing complementary health therapy based on the principle that different points on the feet, known as reflexes, correspond to the organs, glands and systems of the body. By applying specific pressure and massage techniques to these reflexes, reflexologists aim to stimulate energy pathways and restore physical and emotional balance to the body.

Reflexologists do not diagnose or prescribe, however reflexology is becoming a widely recognised therapy that can work alongside conventional healthcare to support physical, emotional and mental well-being. Whilst we are unable to make scientific claims about the benefits derived from reflexology, there is increasing evidence to support the positive effects that can be achieved by this form of touch therapy.

Benefits of Reflexology

The benefits of reflexology vary from person to person. In general most clients experience improved mood, better quality sleep, deep relaxation and a greater sense of wellbeing. Reflexology facilitates the release of mental, physical and emotional tension that can build up during our busy lives. If we don’t disperse and release this tension it can manifest physically and cause energy blockages throughout the body.

With over 7000 nerve endings in each foot, reflexology has a powerful effect on the body’s nervous system, it stimulates the body’s parasympathetic nervous system also known as our ‘rest and digest’ system which plays a vital role in restoring calm and balance. The therapeutic touch of reflexology also helps to stimulate the production of endorphins which give us that ‘feel good factor’ and can also act as natural painkillers.

Wellbeing

We underestimate how important relaxation is for our physical and mental health. Relaxation and self care is as important as a healthy diet, exercise and good sleep. I advise clients to try and build regular therapeutic care into their lifestyle as part of a personal health and wellbeing programme.

Stress

We all encounter varying levels of stress on a daily basis. A small amount of stress is normal and allows us to adjust and respond to our environment. However, prolonged periods of stress can have a detrimental effect on both our physical and mental health leading to depression, anxiety and physical illness. Regular reflexology sessions can help to significantly reduce stress and therefore strengthen our resilience to face life’s daily challenges.

Preconceptual & Pregnancy Care

Reflexology offers a supportive environment where an expectant mother or father can enjoy some restorative care. Preconceptual reflexology takes an holistic approach to the emotional and physical preparation required for a healthy pregnancy. Regular reflexology treatments can encourage a positive and calm mindset and help to support a healthy physiological environment ready for conception.

During pregnancy, clients find that reflexology can help to to ease common pregnancy related symptoms as well as provide an emotionally supportive space for rest and relaxation. A thorough consultation is required prior to all treatments. Please feel free to contact me for further information.
